Maybe they’ll avoid protests here.

May 8, 2008

I’m not a big fan of the decision to allow China to host the Olympic Games. There isn’t enough time in the world to do justice to the arguments against awarding the Olympics (with their holier-than-thou ethical stance) to one of the world’s biggest human rights abusers.
I have been heartened by the protests that have met the Olympic torch almost everywhere that it has been paraded around the globe. It seems the only place there haven’t been protests have been in other dictatorships where fear is the key. Until now. They seem to have found another place that they can parade their Olympic torch without protest… up Mount Everest. Seriously.

You can read the whole story here.

I can only hope that a Sherpa Tenzing-type jumps out as they approach the summit, holding a flag not unlike this…

This is your time to take a stand and make a difference.
Each journey, no matter how long, starts with just one step.
Take that step and say no to money dictating everything.
Make your voice heard, and join the voices telling the Olympic Committee that some people still believe that human life is worth more than money.
