Talking head goes a tad bonkers. Again.

May 15, 2008

David Byrne, erstwhile of Talking Heads fame, is still pushing the boundaries of creativity. This time he’s been indulging his twin passions of music and art. And he’s really outdone himself this time. He’s come up with a building that is a musical instrument. I kid you not.
He waxes lyrical about the project, extolling its virtues. I quote:
“The activations are of three types: wind, vibration, striking. The devices do not produce sound themselves, but they cause the building elements to vibrate, resonate and oscillate so that the building itself becomes a very large musical instrument.”

This is the building in New York. It’s called the Battery Maritime building, and is open from the end of May until 10 August 2008.

Find our more by visiting his site. You can see other buildings he’s done this with and hear previous sound recordings. Check it out here.

Just in case you happen to be in New York (and off your face).
If you do manage to see this, please let me know if it’s great. Or just an unusual idea that should never have got off his sketch pad.
Fantastic musician, mad bloke.
