A titanic task. Especially for a schoolboy.

Another splendid story about a kid from England who won a competition to name an iceberg. Bonkers, or what?
He came up with the name ‘Melting Bob’ for the huge edifice, which is 3 times the size of greater London (which means that it’s quite big). It’s the first time ever that an iceberg has been known by anything other than a numeric code-name and co-ordinates.
Here’s a picture of the iceberg.

The Scott Polar Research Institute will track ‘Melting Bob’ for the next 10 years and try to learn more about global warming from it. You can read more about it here.

All of which brings me to the most important thought I’ve had regarding this iceberg: “Can you imagine the size of the gin and tonic it would fit?”
