This ad’s so bright, they’ve gotta wear shades.

June 3, 2008

This is an advert for Raybans, from our friends on the other side of the Pond.
I saw this on the Wieden & Kennedy blog. They (W&K) are a great agency who handle work for luminaries such as Honda (yes, that’s some pretty tidy work right there) and also Nike. And we all know how impressive I find the historical body of Nike advertising (see blog entry 26th May). You can see the Wieden & Kennedy website here. And, for more up-to-date info, check their excellent blog, here.

This ad was created by a US agency called Cutwater. You can see their website, and some more examples of their work, here.

Here’s a screen grab from the ad. The advert basically shows two pals in several different locations. The first bloke spends the ad trying to throw a pair of Rayban sunglasses onto his pal’s face. Each set-up gets a little more adventurous, and leads to some great footage. This image shows pal 1 stamping down on his skateboard to propel the Raybans towards his mate. And, guess what? They land right on his boat.

Here, for your enjoyment, is the advert in its entirety.

Sure, it doesn’t come directly from the product, but it’s such a great technique and such an iconic brand that they can own this area. Nice work fellas.
